An ingenious example of speech and politics occured recently in the United Nations (UN) Assembly and made the world community smile.

The Palestinian Representative’s Speech at the UN:

“Before beginning my talk I want to tell you something about Moses. When he struck the rock and it brought forth water, he thought, what a good opportunity to have a bath!”

“He removed his clothes, put them aside on the rock and entered the water. When he got out and wanted to dress, his clothes had vanished. An Israeli had stolen them.”

The Israeli representative jumped out furiously and shouted, “What are you talking about? The Israelis weren’t there then.”

The Palestinian representative smiled and said, “And now that we have made that clear, I will begin my speech.”

“Sebagai permulaan saya ingin menceritakan secebis kisah Nabi Musa. Apabila baginda memukul batu, terpancutlah air daripadanya. Baginda terfikir ia adalah masa yang sesuai untuk mandi!”

“Baginda membuka baju, meletakkan di atas baju dan memasuki air. Apabila baginda selesai dan ingin memakai baju semula, ia telah hilang. Orang Israel telah mencurinya.”

Seorang wakil Israel (dibaca rejim zionis) bangun dengan marahnya dan berkata lantang, “Kamu jangan merepek. Orang Israel belum ada di sana lagi.” 

Wakil Palestin itu tersenyum dan berkata, “Segelanya sudah jelas dan saya akan memulakan ucapan saya.”

Yahamim: Sinis lagi pedas.
